CAGE-FREE IS THE NEW STANDARD

More than 2,700 companies around the world have pledged to spare hens from cages. Join the movement that’s reshaping the food industry—and setting a higher bar for animal care and consumer trust.

What is a cage-free egg commitment?

A cage-free commitment is a public, written pledge to eliminate all cages for egg-laying hens across a company’s supply chain. This means hens are never confined in cages—barn systems, free-range, and organic operations allow them to roam inside the barn or shed, expressing more of their natural behaviors.

A true cage-free commitment

  • Includes all egg use (shell, liquid, and ingredient eggs) company-wide

  • Sets a clear deadline for going cage-free

  • Excludes any use of battery cages, enriched cages, colony cages, or combination/combi systems

In addition to the thousands of companies that have made cage-free commitments, ten US states and the European Union have also banned cages for egg-laying hens.

What does a strong policy look like?

A meaningful policy is time-bound, comprehensive, and transparent—covering all operations and all egg types, with progress reported at least annually. Here’s an example:

Our company is committed to sourcing only cage-free eggs and egg products for all locations by the end of 2026. At the end of 2024, x% of our total egg volume was from cage-free sources. We aim to increase this to x% by the end of 2025. We will report our cage-free progress percentage annually until we achieve our goal.
